Pittsburgh zoo closed by power outage
PITTSBURGH (AP) – The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium closed for the day because of a power outage.
Power was restored about 8:45 a.m. after the hour-long outage that affected the zoo and about 700 other Duquesne Light customers Tuesday morning.
Utility spokeswoman Jessica Rock said a transformer failed and had to be replaced.
Zoo spokeswoman Tracy Gray said the facility uses backup generators to run its aquariums and otherwise keep animals warm when the power goes down in colder weather.
The zoo expects to reopen this morning.
