Police beat Dec. 2
Theft charge: Devon M. Thomas, 23, of York, was charged with retail theft after allegedly stealing food after 1 a.m. Tuesday from Kwik Fill, 350 Third St. Charges will be sent by summons.
Bicycle theft: Kathleen Weaver of 151 Smithfield St. reported a man’s mountain bike was stolen from outside her house Monday, and a girl’s bike was left in its place.
Fugitive captured: Jamie M. Roberts, 33, of 209 Rear Prospect Ave., Charleroi, is charged by Charleroi Regional police with receiving stolen property, accused of stealing a cellphone from a local man and selling it for $12 on Oct. 26, 2009, court records show. District Judge Larry Hopkins sent her Monday to Washington County jail on $25,000 bond.
Man jailed: Christopher Lee Roberts, 27, of 410 10th St., Charleroi, is charged by Charleroi Regional police with burglary, trespassing and criminal mischief, accused of kicking in a door to 1018 Fallowfield Ave. about 9:30 a.m. Nov. 25 while looking for a man he accused of robbing him, court records show. He is in Washington County jail on $100,000 bond set Tuesday by District Judge Larry Hopkins.
Wallboard stolen: Foam wallboard sheets were stolen Friday from a construction site on Ironwood Drive in McMurray, police said. The incident remains under investigation.
DUI alleged in accident: Bethany A. Shirey, 30, of 45 Southern Ave., Strattanville, was placed in Washington County jail after police said the vehicle she was driving struck a mailbox and utility pole. According to South Strabane police, the incident occurred about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday when Shirey failed to stop at the intersection of Locust Avenue and Country Club Road. Police said a Breathalyzer test revealed Shirey had a blood-alcohol content of 0.144 percent. Shirey is charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving and failure to stop at a stop sign. She was arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller Tuesday and jailed on $10,000 bond.
Assault charge: Michael A. Cwiklinski, 46, of 120 Woodcrest Drive, Canonsburg, was charged by South Strabane police after allegedly striking a woman in the face Monday outside Walmart, 30 Trinity Point Drive. He was charged with simple assault and harassment and released on bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled Dec. 8 before District Judge Jay Weller.
Suspicious activity: The branch manager of Citizens Bank in Giant Eagle, 331 Washington Road, Washington, reported to police a man and woman in a white Chevy truck entered and exited the store, acting suspiciously, many times Monday. South Strabane police saw no signs of the couple when they arrived.
Theft reported: Benjamin Krupnik, 23, of Clarion, reported to police a new chest freezer worth $150 was stolen from the bed of his truck either Saturday from 7 to 10:30 p.m. or Sunday from 7 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. from the Washington Crown Center parking lot.
Criminal mischief: Patty Wiszcor of 117 Mager Drive, Washington, reported to police her car was scratched Nov. 7 and again Monday while parked at her residence.
Home burglarized: Randy Santina of Victoria Drive told Southwest Regional police his home was burglarized between 5:30 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. Monday and a Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun was taken.
Hit-and-run alleged: Charges are pending against John Baxter, 50, of 50 Woodland Ave., after he allegedly hit a vehicle with his truck and fled. According to Washington police, Jon Gans of Belleview reported a white Dodge Ram struck his vehicle Monday near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Beau Street. Gans followed the truck, which police spotted at LeMoyne Avenue and Houston Street. Baxter initially stopped, then continued to travel west on Houston while an officer repeatedly told him to pull over through a loudspeaker. Police said Baxter stopped when another cruiser pulled in front of him. He allegedly told officers he had pills and marijuana. Police said they also found paraphernalia in his truck. He was taken to the police station and then a hospital for evaluation.
Failure to return: Ralph McLaughlin, 43, of Houston, is back in Washington County jail after failing to return from a temporary furlough Sept. 11. He was captured by Washington police and will be charge with escape.
