CALIFORNIA – An Easton man faces charges in connection with thefts and a break-in at the California University of Pennsylvania student union.

Cal U. police accuse Matthew M. Moore, 19, of Easton, of breaking into the Natali Center by damaging a rotating door about 3:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day to retrieve keys that he left behind while helping himself earlier to a microwavable dinner, hot dogs and a deck of playing cards, court records show.

Police said video surveillance captured Moore entering the student union about 6:10 p.m. Nov. 25, and he is accused of remaining there while the building was being closed to the public.

He also was seen in the video eating the microwavable meal that was taken from the student government/student association office’s board room before he left the union about 3:22 a.m. Nov. 26, police said in the affidavit attached to the criminal complaint.

Police said an officer noticed him in the student union about 8 a.m. Tuesday, wearing the same clothing that he wore in the surveillance video. The officer tackled and handcuffed Moore after he attempted to run from the building.

Cal U. spokeswoman Christine Kindl said Moore is not a current student at the university. It was not immediately known Wednesday why he was on campus at the time of the break-in.

He is charged with trespassing while breaking into a building, theft, flight to avoid apprehension, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

Moore is in Washington County jail on $5,000 bond set by District Judge Mark Wilson.
