Theft, false ID charges: Brent McCormick, 19, of New Castle, will be charged by California police with retail theft and carrying a false identification card after he allegedly tried to steal items from Kwik Fill, Third Street, just before 2 a.m. Tuesday.
Vehicle damaged: Katie Moss, no address available, told Chartiers police Saturday letters were scratched into her vehicle while it was parked at Progressive Medical, 2453 W. Pike St.
Handguns missing: A resident of the 200 block of Canterwood Drive in Venetia told police Monday two handguns are missing from his home.
Attempted burglary charge: Steven Plance, 37, who Washington police said is homeless, was arrested about 4:25 a.m. Tuesday as he allegedly was trying to break into a house in the 10 block of East Hallam Avenue. Police said they saw him trying to enter the basement with a pry bar. He then reportedly charged at officers before he was taken into custody. Copper pipe, a hack saw, a pipe cutter and other tools were found in a bag he carried, police said. He was wanted on a probation violation in addition to charges of possession of Suboxone and paraphernalia filed in connection with an incident on Jefferson Avenue in July. He was arraigned before District Judge James Ellis on charges of attempted burglary, loitering and prowling at night and possessing instruments of a crime, in addition to the drug charges. Plance was placed in Washington County jail on $20,000 bond.
Mail stolen: Audria Ford of 17 W. Chestnut St., told Washington police mail was stolen from her mailbox.
Fraud reported: A 59-year-old Washington woman told Washington police she was scammed out of $800 when a check for $1,380 was sent to her for her participation in filling out surveys. She then received a letter that said she was overpaid and needed to send $800 back to the company. After she sent the money, she learned from her bank the original check was no good.
