Grand jury indicts area woman
Teri L. Zemencik, 49, of Canonsburg was indicted by a federal grand jury Wednesday on four counts of mail fraud for allegedly stealing more than $494,000 from her employer, IGS Industries in Meadow Lands.
Zemencik is accused of stealing over a period of six years while she worked in the payroll department of the manufacturing company.
Prosecutors claim Zemencik entered invoices into the accounting system, was a signatory of the company’s checking account and issued checks to pay those invoices.
From 2009 until April, Zemencik allegedly had about 145 fraudulent checks issued from the account using false invoice numbers for legitimate vendors.
After the checks were generated to the vendors, she allegedly re-entered the accounting system and altered the checks so that payments were instead made to her Visa, Mastercard and Discover credit card accounts. She then allegedly signed the checks and sent them through the U.S. Postal Service.
Zemencik faces arraignment before a federal magistrate on Jan. 5.
