Kristin Marcy, the assistant deputy clerk of courts, is seeking the Washington County row office’s top job.

Clerk of Courts Barbara Gibbs, the county’s longest-serving officeholder, announced Friday she will not seek a ninth four-year term.

Marcy, 42, who lives in the Mon Valley community of Stockdale, was hired 17 years ago to establish a collections department for fees and fines in the clerk of courts office.

Since that time, she worked in all capacities of the office such as implementing a document scanning system and handling bookkeeping. She is also a supervisor in the office that handles and maintains records of criminal cases against adults; juvenile petitions; various types of bonds; road dockets; appeals of domestic relations orders and miscellaneous matters.

Marcy, who is seeking the Democratic nomination in the May 19 primary, is a graduate of Charleroi Area High School, California University of Pennsylvania and Leadership Washington County.

She is a Stockdale Borough councilwoman, Democratic committeewoman, a member of the Washington Chapter of the Council of Democratic Women and the Mon Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce. She is a member of Stockdale Volunteer Fire Department, where she is also financial secretary. Marcy is an organizer of the annual Rosoce-Elco-Stockdale Allenport Regional Police Department’s car show.

“I can offer a seamless transition by maintaining the same staff and offering the knowledge and experience required to supervise this office,” Marcy said in a news release Monday. “This is a full-time position, and I intend to work full time to continue the excellence this office is known for.”
