Police seek man who robbed woman at ATM
McDonald police are looking for a man armed with a knife who robbed a woman at an automated teller machine outside a Burgettstown bank Friday night.
The 42-year-old Burgettstown woman was at the ATM outside the PNC bank, 1803 N. Main St., about 6 p.m. when the man demanded cash.
“She didn’t even realize he was there until he approached her,” said Officer Jordan Faust. “His face was covered with a dark bandana over his face and a hood pulled up over his head.
“When he told her to give him all of her money, she thought it was a joke at first. Then she turned and saw a long-bladed knife.”
The robber reached for her wallet, but the woman convinced him to just take the cash.
“He told her that he didn’t want to hurt her,” Faust said.
He grabbed the cash and ran across the parking lot to a fence line and then toward the Panhandle Trail. The woman could not tell police if the robber, who was dressed all in black, went onto the trail or went over the hill.
She then drove to the Smith Township police department to report the robbery. Faust said the victim was concerned if she went directly home, he might follow her.
