Students, hospital team up for health
WAYNESBURG – This spring, Waynesburg University students will conduct health and wellness education in the second-floor lobby of Southwest Regional Medical Center.
This free health education is being offered to provide valuable health education and information to community members and employees of the hospital. The education will focus on prevalent health conditions such as heart health, lung health and healthy eating.
The dates, topics and students in charge are as follows:
• Feb. 6: Don’t let the flu catch you! – Danielle Rupert and Shelby Staggers
• Feb. 9: Sun health – Alissa Vickers and Sarah Reyes
• Feb. 13: Tackling MRSA – Jacquelynn Bindus and Thomas Brownfield
• Feb. 16: Not getting enough … sleep? – Emma Dantry and Elise Kopas
• Feb. 20: What’s under the red dress? (heart health) – Joy Oster and Breanne Tyler
• Feb. 23: Just one lump or two? What’s in your diet? – Melissa Coleman and Victoria Martucci
• March 30: Substance use is life abuse – Taylor Basinger and Mandy Eddy
Students will be available from 8:30 a.m. until noon on each of the days noted.
The students are seniors enrolled in Clinical Prevention and Population Health, instructed by Melany D. Chrash.
“This program allows our students to put their education to use by providing benefit to the community,” said Chrash.
Each week will have a particular focus and set of students to present the information. They will have educational displays, information and be available to answer questions. Anyone wishing to stop by and talk with them can do so during the noted times.
