League of Women Voters sponsors luncheon
The League of Women Voters of Washington County has invited the nine state legislators who represent parts of Washington County to the league’s annual legislative luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 20 at Citizens Library, 55 S. College St., Washington.
The cost of the catered lunch, which is open to the public, is $15. Reservations should be made by Feb. 13 with Judy Hughes at jh0709@comcast.net and checks mailed to K.L. Hanawalt, League of Women Voters of Washington County treasurer, 205 Grandview Drive, McMurray, PA, 15317.
Those invited include state Sens. Camera Bartolotta and Matt Smith and state Reps. John Maher, Jason Ortitay, Jim Christiana, Peter Daley, Brandon Neuman, Rick Saccone and Pam Snyder.
The luncheon is an information session in which the legislators are asked questions about topics of interest to the league, including issues related to the election process, such as closed primaries, third-party access to the ballot and the redistricting process; equitable pay for women and whether the Legislature should consider an increase in the minimum wage; treatment, transport and disposal of natural gas waste; and what bills they intend to introduce or co-sponsor in the upcoming session. If time permits, they will be asked about equitable and adequate per-pupil spending for education.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization.
