Police: Man robbed while selling drugs
WAYNESBURG – Drew Gordon Summersgill of Waynesburg told state police he was beaten and robbed by two men while engaging in a drug deal shortly after midnight Wednesday on Morris Street in Franklin Township.
But it wasn’t Summersgill who was arrested; it was the man who drove two men to the site where the drug deal was to occur.
Charged with criminal conspiracy to commit robbery and theft by unlawful taking was Joshua Raymond Grimes, 19, of 163 E. Greene St., who is in Greene County jail on $15,000 straight cash bond.
According to the criminal complaint, Summersgill called police to report he was attacked and robbed of marijuana and his wallet, cellphone and car keys.
Summersgill told police Grimes drove two men to 1795 Morris St., parked his car and waited while the two unidentified men walked from there to Wade Street to purchase marijuana from him.
Police said Summersgill told them the two men arrived at his location on Wade Street and broke the window out of his car and pulled him from it. One of the men grabbed Summersgill by the neck, pointed a gun at him and removed his wallet, cellphone and car keys.
Summersgill said he became free and attempted to run away but was tackled by the two men and struck about the head.
The men fled the scene, police said.
Grimes was arrested a short time later and told state police he set up the drug purchase with Summersgill and then conspired with the two men to rob Summersgill of the marijuana.
His preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Lee Watson is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
