Police beat Feb. 6
Welfare fraud: Julie Seese, 33, of 228 Orchard St., Canonsburg, was arraigned Thursday before District Judge David Mark on charges of welfare fraud and unlawfully obtaining food stamps. A caseworker for Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare filed the charges because Seese allegedly failed to report her husband’s income and obtained food stamps and medical assistance.
PFA violation alleged: Neil Snedeker, 45, of 272 Vine St., Canonsburg, was arrested Wednesday night by Canonsburg police for allegedly violating a protection-from-abuse order officers served on him just hours earlier. Police said he went to the home he once shared with his estranged girlfriend, Janice Pavlic, at 272 Vine, and was knocking on the front door in violation of the order. He was arraigned before District Judge Curtis Thompson and placed in Washington County jail on a $25,000 percentage bond.
Charged in crash: Shonray Lamar McDade, 41, of Dayton, Ohio, was charged this week by state police in connection with a Nov. 13 two-vehicle crash on Interstate 79 southbound near the Southpointe exit, Cecil. Police said McDade was under the influence of several medications, including hydrocodone. He is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, leaving the scene of a crash, failure to stay in his lane, failure to render aid and careless driving. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of Senior District Judge Jay Dutton.
Vehicle flips: Edward Pfender II, 32, of 752 Ewing St., Washington, escaped injury when his sport utility vehicle went off the 900 block of Thomas-Eighty Four Road and flipped on its side. North Strabane police said he was driving north when his vehicle apparently got caught up in snow. Police said he overcompensated. The vehicle then fishtailed, went up an embankment and flipped on to the driver’s side. Passersby helped him out of the back window of the vehicle.
Trespass charge: Police arrested Scott Kelly, 29, of Vandergrift Wednesday and charged him with criminal trespass. Police said they were called at 9:57 p.m. Wednesday to 100 Trenton Circle, McMurray, by a resident who said someone was banging on her sliding door, and it might be a former boyfriend. The woman and her mother locked themselves in the bathroom and waited for police. When police arrived, they said they found Kelly, whom the woman identified as her ex-boyfriend. Kelly was arraigned before District Judge Curtis Thompson and taken to Washington County jail on $10,000 bond.
Sunglasses stolen: South Strabane police said four pairs of Oakley sunglasses valued at $775 were reported stolen Wednesday from Sunglass Hut, Tanger Outlets.
