Woman treated for carbon monoxide

1 min read

A Washington woman was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment of carbon monoxide poisoning Saturday night after city firefighters and ambulance personnel were called to her West End home.

City fire Capt. Nick Blumer said the 11 p.m. call to 766 ½ Broad St. was to assist Ambulance and Chair personnel with a medical call.

“The ambulance crew got there before us. They have a carbon monoxide detector strapped to their bag,” Blumer said. “It went off as soon as they walked into the house. We took in our meter, and it went off right away. We got really high readings.”

Virginia Cox, who lived in the house with six other adults and two children, was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment.

Blumer said a crew from Columbia Gas Co. took the furnace and water heater out of service until the landlord, Paul Miller, can have them repaired.

The American Red Cross was also notified. Blumer said a few people, including the children, went to stay with friends. The Red Cross assisted four of the residents.
