Burgettstown man to stand trial in ATM robbery
A Burgettstown man charged with robbing a woman at knifepoint at an automated teller machine on Jan. 30 was ordered to stand trial Wednesday.
Charles William Thomas, 25, of 126 Florence Ave., appeared before District Judge Joshua Kanalis on four counts of robbery and one count of receiving stolen property. Deputy District Attorney Dennis Paluso changed the receiving stolen property charge to theft by unlawful taking.
Thomas is accused of robbing a 42-year-old Burgettstown woman at the PNC Bank ATM, 1803 Main St., Burgettstown. The victim was present in court Wednesday and testified.
Surveillance video and cooperation from the community helped McDonald police track down Thomas. Police said Thomas later confessed to the robbery, telling the officer he needed the money for a drug debt.
