Scenery Hill man charged in recent thefts, burglaries

A Scenery Hill man already in Washington County jail on a bench warrant was arraigned via video Tuesday on charges filed by state police stemming from several recent crimes in Bentleyville.
Brent W. Hendershot, 29, of 146 Route 917, was taken into custody Saturday after he allegedly stole a woman’s wallet and then broke into an apartment in the 800 block of Main Street.
Hendershot is accused of stealing a snowblower and chainsaw from a garage at 205 Lackawanna Ave., between Jan. 23 and 26. The owner, Henry Watkins, told police he used the snowblower Jan. 23 and when he went to use it three days later, it was gone. Hendershot told police he sold it for $80 to a person in a gasoline station parking lot.
On Jan. 28, he allegedly stole a Yamaha Raptor all-terrain vehicle that was in the back of a truck owned by Anthony Krivida of Belle Vernon and was parked in the lot at Bentleyville Fire Department Social Hall. He is seen riding off on it on surveillance video from a nearby camera.
Hendershot reportedly traded the ATV for a Jeep, telling the owner he did not have the paperwork yet. When the man who had the Jeep heard of the ATV theft the following day, he contacted Krivida, returned the ATV and got his Jeep back, police said.
Police were called about 5 p.m. Saturday after Hendershot reportedly tried to steal a woman’s cellphone from First Presbyterian Church, 812 Main St., and stole her wallet. He then entered an apartment at 825 Main St. Police took him into custody.
Hendershot was arraigned before District Judge Curtis Thompson on charges of criminal trespass, attempted theft, burglary, two counts of receiving stolen property and three counts of theft. Thompson set bond at $30,000.
