Freight train hits tractor-trailer in Homestead

1 min read

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Authorities in western Pennsylvania say a freight train struck a tractor-trailer hauling cars near Pittsburgh, but no injuries were reported.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the tractor-trailer was hauling three cars when it was hit by the CSX train at about 8 p.m. Saturday in Homestead.

Officials said the 34-year-old driver was able to jump out before the train hit his truck and dragged it for about 300 yards.

He told the paper that the truck lost traction on the railroad tracks at the crossing and could not be moved.

Police said traffic was being rerouted around the scene of the twisted wreckage that included the three vehicles being hauled by the truck, which was to be removed by CSX.
