Alleged assault lands man in jail

WAYNESBURG – A Waynesburg man was arrested Sunday after police said he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend, resisted arrest and threatened a police officer.
Marquell Lawrence Bailey, 23, of 146 W. Lincoln St., is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats, resisting arrest and domestic violence.
Waynesburg Borough Police Officer Marcus Simms said he responded to a report of a domestic dispute in progress, possibly involving a knife, at Bailey’s residence. Upon his arrival, Simms spoke with Glenn Raymond, the father of Bailey’s girlfriend, Corrin Raymond, who was crying.
Raymond showed Simms a red mark on her back where she alleged Bailey punched her, according to a criminal complaint filed before Magisterial District Judge Glenn Bates. She told Simms Bailey struck her multiple times in the face and back and said Bailey was upstairs with their child. Simms said he proceeded upstairs and requested either the mother or grandfather take the child.
Simms asked Bailey to give the child to Glenn Raymond multiple times but Bailey refused. Bailey told Simms Corrin had tried to hit him first. Simms said he told Bailey he was being placed under arrest and Bailey refused to be handcuffed.
A struggle between Simms and Bailey ensued and two state troopers arrived to assist. Police used a Taser and Bailey was eventually subdued.
Bailey was arraigned before Bates and placed in Greene County jail on $20,000 straight cash bond. A preliminary hearing in the matter is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. Monday.
