Police beat Feb. 18
Retail theft charge: Jeffrey S. Dunlap, 49, of 118 Poplar St., Ellsworth, was charged by state police with misdemeanor retail theft for allegedly stealing tobacco from the Sunoco, Main Street, Bentleyville, Jan. 27. The charge was sent by summons from the office of District Judge Curtis Thompson.
Warrant arrest: Faasauvale Sele, 20, of Canonsburg, was arrested Monday on an outstanding bench warrant by Canonsburg police and adult probation. He was found at 143 W. College St. Suspected marijuana and paraphernalia were found during a compliance search. Police will charge him with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge David Mark.
Charged in crash: Melanie Marie Frantz, 25, of 1207½ W. Wylie Ave., Canton, was charged Friday by state police with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, criminal mischief, careless and reckless driving, failure to stay in the lane, and not having insurance stemming from a crash early Jan. 26 in the 900 block of West Wylie, Canton. Police said she went off the road, hit several mailboxes went through a yard and got her vehicle stuck on a manhole cover. Frantz was taken to Washington Hospital by her mother. She reportedly admitted to police she used heroin before the crash. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge David Mark.
Warrant served: James M. Stout, 29, of 132 Country Club Road, South Strabane Township, was found with suspected paraphernalia when Washington County sheriff’s deputies served a warrant on him Feb. 11 at Noce’s Motel, 1945 W. Chestnut St., Canton. He was placed in Washington County jail on the warrant. He was charged Friday with possession of paraphernalia at the office of District Judge David Mark.
Driver cited: Kirk Strotman, 44, of Ellsworth, escaped injury Monday afternoon when his vehicle went off Interstate 70 east in Fallowfield, hit a guard rail and spun around, state police said. He will be cited with failure to drive at a safe speed.
Assault, harassment charges: David G. Weaver, 50, of 290 Scott Lane, Washington, was arrested Sunday by state police at The Meadows Casino, North Strabane. He is accused of biting his girlfriend, Monica Moskal, on the finger and slapping her during a confrontation at the casino. He was arraigned before District Judge James Ellis on charges of simple assault and harassment. Weaver was released on $500 unsecured bond.
Theft charge: William White, 23, of 3090 Brownsville Road, South Park, was charged Friday by Peters police with theft for allegedly stealing a tennis bracelet and necklace on Jan. 12 from 563 Justabout Road. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge James Ellis.
Charged in theft: Jeremy P. Efaw, 28, of Salem, W.Va., was charged Friday by Peters police with retail theft for allegedly stealing several birth control prevention kits on Jan. 24 from Walgreen’s, 100 E. McMurray Road. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge James Ellis.
Golf clubs stolen: A golf bag and full set of golf clubs valued at $2,400 were reported stolen Monday from an unsecured storage shed on Phillips Drive, McMurray, Peters Township police said.
Texas woman arrested: State police charged Inger M. Castetter, 39, of San Antonio, Texas, with criminal mischief and prowling after a vehicle at 365C Route 519 in Somerset Township was vandalized Monday night. Police said Castetter was upset about a debt owed to a resident at the home, even though that person was in Texas at the time. Castetter was arraigned by District Judge Robert Redlinger and taken to Washington County jail on $10,000 bond.
Trailer, tools stolen: A white Trailsport storage trailer containing construction equipment and tools was stolen between Feb. 6 and 9 from 795 S Bridge Road, South Franklin. State police said the trailer is owned by Alex E. Paris Construction. Anyone with information is asked to call state police at 724-223-5200.
UTV stolen: Blue Mountain NC of Burton, W.Va., told state police Saturday a red and black Polaris 800 XP, side-by-side utility vehicle with a black dump bed and enclosed cab was stolen from Bethel Church Road at Farmers Lane, South Franklin. The vehicle also had small and large yellow bubble lights.
Burglary, theft charges: Brandon J. Arnold, 32, of Dravosburg, was arraigned Tuesday via video from the State Correctional Institute at Albion before District Judge James Ellis on charges of burglary, theft and criminal mischief. DNA results linked him to a Dec. 26, 2010, burglary at 141 Gun Club Road, Union. He reportedly broke into the home, stealing gold and silver coins and jewelry. He was confronted by two neighbors and left behind a jacket. Ellis set bond at $50,000.
Fugitive arrested: Randy L. Patton, 41, was arrested by state police while walking along Interstate 70 near the Beau Street exit about 9 a.m. Tuesday after troopers discovered he was wanted on a parole violation out of Edgecombe County, N.C. Patton was arraigned by District Judge Robert Redlinger and was taken to Washington County jail while he awaits extradition back to North Carolina.
Girl assaulted: Damand Henderson, 35, of 1125 Jefferson Ave., Washington, was arrested Monday night by Washington police on charges of simple assault and harassment. He is accused of hitting a 10-year-old girl at his home, pulling her hair and throwing her to the floor during an argument. He was arraigned before District Judge James Ellis and placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond.
DUI crash: Shaylyn N. Simpson, 28, of 117 S. Pine St., Ellsworth, was charged last week by state police with driving under the influence of alcohol, careless driving and several other violations stemming from a Jan. 9 crash on Route 40 near Suzy Lane, West Pike Run. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Curtis Thompson.
