Chili cook-off to be held in Greensboro
GREENSBORO – The Great Greensboro Chili Cook-off will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday in the Greensboro fire hall.
People are invited to attend to sample the chili or to compete by entering their best chili in the competition.
People can enter their chili in the cook-off in advance at the borough offices, 405 Front St., Greensboro, or be registered no later than 4:30 p.m., the day of the event, in the fire hall.
Chili makers must be registered to compete and must comply with cook-off rules to win. The cook-off will begin at 5 p.m.
The cost of chili tasting, including cornbread and dessert, is $5 for adults and $2 for children.
All chili must be homemade without the use of canned or prepackaged chili kits. Canned tomato products are acceptable.
Complete ingredients must be noted on a piece of paper prominently displayed in front of the slow cooker or pot from which the chili is served. The slow cooker or pot is to be provided by the participant.
Each participant should make two gallons of chili and are responsible for serving it.
Judging will be conducted by those in attendance who will pay $1 for each vote.
Purchase of larger quantities of chili will be permitted after the judges have completed their tasting and selected the overall winner.
The chili cook-off is sponsored by the Nathanael Greene Community Development Corporation with all proceeds used for projects in Southeastern Greene School District.
