University students selected for band festival
WAYNESBURG – Philip Hurd, a senior music ministry major from Prattsburgh, N.Y., and Allyson Georgian, a junior forensic accounting major from Chagrin Falls, Ohio, were recently selected to participate in the Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Band Festival.
The 68th annual festival will be held March 6-8 at Bloomsburg University. Founded in 1948, the Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Band is the oldest continually operating band of its kind in the United States.
Each year, students from colleges and universities across Pennsylvania are recommended by band directors, submit applications and are chosen to participate by a selection committee.
“This year, we are sending a music ministry major and a music minor as our emissaries to this fine ensemble,” said Dr. Ronda DePriest, associate professor of instrumental music and director of the Music Program at Waynesburg University. “I am always proud to see our students take advantage of opportunities that are open to them, whether those opportunities present themselves on our campus or in surrounding communities.”
