Chamber announces activities

The Waynesburg Area Chamber of Commerce has compiled a list of events and activities taking place next month.

Greene County Career and Technology Center will hold an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. March 4. Come see what the programs at the GCCTC has to offer. Refreshments will be provided by future chefs. There will be door prizes and an “Iron Chef” competition.

The fifth annual Polar Bear Battle between the Waynesburg and Fayette chambers of commerce will be held from noon to 7 p.m. March 7 at Nemacolin Woodlands.

Five events will be held, and the team with the highest score wins. Events include “Snow Golf,” “Snowball Toss,” “Giant Puzzle,” “Wordles” and finally a “Bowling Tournament” ending with a pizza buffet.

There is lots of inter-county networking and loads of fun.

In 2014, Polly the Polar Bear and the gold medals came back to Greene County with a team from the Baily Agency. The prior three years, Polly had resided in Fayette County.

The Waynesburg Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications from graduating seniors for the 25th Annual Chamber of Commerce Scholarship to be awarded in May. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the scholarship, the amount will be increased this year to $2,500. In addition, the winner will receive a laptop compliments of PCsquared in Waynesburg.

A benefit paint and sip will be held at 6:30 p.m. March 16 at the Cumberland Grange on Route 21 across from Michael’s Auto Sales. Proceeds go to Relay for Life Survivor Luncheon sponsored by Cornerstone Care Inc. Cost is $40 and includes everything you need to go home with a masterpiece that you have painted. West Sides’ Spaghetti Dinner Italia will be held from noon to 2:30 p.m. March 22 at 595 W. High Street. Dinner includes spaghetti, salad and bread. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children 10 and under.

$1 desserts will be available. A $20 family pass for four or more people will be available at the door. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at Wayne Lumber or McCracken Pharmacy. Doors open at 11:45am. Carryout is available.

“He’s Alive,” an Easter Passion Play celebrating the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, will be held at 7:30 p.m. March 27 and 28 and 3:30 p.m. March 29 the Capitol Theater in Wheeling, W.Va.

Many of the cast and crew are from Greene County. Buses will be available March 27 from Mt. Morris Gospel Tabernacle with a stop in Waynesburg at Big Lots at 5:30 p.m. and at 1 p.m. March 29 from Big Lots in Waynesburg. Cost is $15 per person. Bus RSVP deadline is March 16.

Greene County Library System is offering Freegal Music through the public libraries. With a library card, you can stream three hours of music per day and download three songs per week. There is no cost for the downloads. Library cards are available at Bowlby Library, Waynesburg, and Flenniken Library, Carmichaels.
