Canonsburg police arrest man on heroin charges
A Pittsburgh man was arrested early Thursday afternoon by Canonsburg police after he allegedly sold a brick of heroin to a confidential informant.
Canonsburg police said they also found 24-year-old Clarence Allison had two more bricks of heroin with him when he was taken into custody during a traffic stop about 12:45 p.m.
Police Chief Al Coghill said police set it up so Allison would deliver heroin to an informant. He said the buy took place in a parking lot off Cavasina Drive at Bobby Vinton Boulevard, and once the transaction took place, police initiated the traffic stop.
“It was important to us to get him off the street, because we received information that he had been soliciting people in this area wanting to purchase guns for people in Pittsburgh,” Coghill said. “We believe the guns were meant to end up in the hands of gang members.”
No guns were found when Allison was taken into custody.
The chief said he was not sure if Allison was dealing drugs in the Canonsburg area, but he said the Pittsburgh man seemed familiar with the borough.
Allison was arraigned before District Judge David Mark on charges of possession and possession with intent to deliver heroin and possession of paraphernalia. He was placed in Washington County Jail on $75,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for March 11 before Mark.
