Firefighters battling townhouse blaze in Upper St. Clair
At least five fire crews are battling a blaze at a townhouse at 1540 Pinehurst Drive in Upper St. Clair. Flames were shooting from the roof, smoke was pouring down the street and multiple fire companies are on the scene.
A woman who lives at the house, Ray Lynn Porco, said she and her boyfriend, Matt, were putting a baby down for a nap when they smelled burning wires.
The boyfriend declined to give his surname.
There were no injuries in the blaze, but two cats died of smoke inhalation, according to Upper St. Clair Police Chief Douglas Burkholder.
An emergency medical services worker brought the cats out of the house in a blanket and tried to revive them, but the attempt was unsuccessful.
In addition to fire and ambulance services, Peoples Natural Gas and West Penn Power are on the scene.
