Pittsburgh woman dies in I-70 crash

1 min read

A Pittsburgh woman was killed late Wednesday in a single-car accident on Interstate 70 in Somerset Township.

State police say 27-year-old Vanessa Mutschler was found lying in the middle of the eastbound lanes of the highway near the Route 917 overpass after crashing about 11:20 p.m. They say she had been traveling at a very high speed when her vehicle rolled several times shortly before 11:30 p.m. She was ejected as the vehicle rolled back onto the eastbound lanes, traveling more than 430 feet.

Mutschler was pronounced dead at the scene by Washington County Coroner Tim Warco. Warco ruled that she died of multiple injuries. She was not wearing a seat belt.

Both eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed for several hours, and traffic was rerouted.

Assisting at the scene were firefighters from Bentleyville and Fallowfield Township.

She is the sixth person killed on Washington County roads this year.
