Suspect in Pa. casino worker’s shooting death surrenders

UNIONTOWN – A man charged in the fatal shooting of his girlfriend as she drove to work at a Pennsylvania casino turned himself in to police.

Terry Walker, 45, of Uniontown, was in Fayette County prison after his arraignment Friday because Pennsylvania law doesn’t permit a district judge to set bond on a charge of criminal homicide.

Walker’s girlfriend, Mya Ann Grady, 36, was shot twice in the head as she drove along Route 40 from Uniontown, where she also lived, to the Lady Luck Casino at Nemacolin Woodlands resort.

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation snow plow operators found her body after they saw her car had drifted into a guardrail along the highway. Thinking she had wrecked in snowy conditions about 8:30 a.m. Saturday, the operators, instead, found Grady’s lifeless body and the car still in drive, according to a criminal complaint filed by state police.

Walker went to the state police at the barracks in nearby Lemont Furnace about 12:30 a.m. Friday, accompanied by attorney Thomas Shaffer.

“My client is here to face charges voluntarily that have been lodged against him. His version of the facts are different from what state police have alleged,” Shaffer said, without citing specifics.

Grady’s relatives told police she had dated Walker for about seven years, but was recently trying to end what they called a “turbulent and abusive” relationship, the complaint said.

Police contend Walker followed Grady’s car in another vehicle, then drove past her as she stopped at a convenience store. Walker then drove slowly enough that Grady’s car caught up to his sport utility vehicle, at which point shots were fired from it, police said.

“The defendant admitted he was present when two gunshots were fired into the victim,” police said in the complaint.

A witness also told police they saw an SUV like Walker’s speeding up the highway moments with its passenger window was down. The witness saw a dark-skinned black man – which would match Walker’s description – driving and no passenger in the vehicle, police said.

Walker faces a preliminary hearing March 11.
