City police seek armed robber; cash, guns stolen

WASHINGTON – An armed man whose face was covered by a bandana robbed the E-Z Cash pawn shop at 110 Highland Ave. Saturday evening and ran off with cash and eight handguns.
Washington police said a black or Hispanic man wearing a checkered jacket entered the store at about 5:30 p.m. as an employee was preparing to close for the day. The man brandished a handgun and ordered the male employee to open the register. He took an unknown amount of cash.
He then attempted to use his handgun to smash a glass case containing guns, but was unable to break the case. He ordered the employee to unlock the case and grabbed eight guns. He ordered the employee onto the ground and ran toward Lincoln Terrace.
Police Lt. Robert Lemons said a police dog was able to track him for about half a block, but the dog lost his scent. Police said they will review the store’s surveillance tape to try to identify the man.
