Pedestrians killed in aftermath of ice storm

1 min read

APOLLO – A Western Pennsylvania man who was run over by his own van because of icy road conditions was one of at least two pedestrians killed in separate incidents.

Authorities told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review 68-year-old Gary Beigay of Apollo had just parked the vehicle outside his second-hand store when it started to slide backward on the icy street around 7:30 a.m. Saturday. They say Beigay went behind in an attempt to stop it, but it rolled over him and killed him.

Armstrong County Chief Deputy Coroner Robert Bellas says Beigay died of chest injuries.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office confirms that another pedestrian was killed Saturday morning in Aleppo, but officials were still at the scene and a spokeswoman says details are not available.
