Cumberland Township supervisors reorganize
CARMICHAELS – Cumberland Township supervisors held their reorganization meeting Monday, re-electing William Groves chairman and approving annual wage increases for township employees.
Groves served as board chairman for about the last 10 years. William Nicholson was re-elected vice chairman and Debra Rush, secretary treasurer.
All three supervisors, Groves, Nicholson and James Sokol, were appointed road masters.
The supervisors agreed to continue to meet the first Monday of each month at 3 p.m. January through April and October through December. They will meet at 4 p.m. May through September. If the first Monday of the month is a holiday, the supervisors will meet the second Monday of the month.
The supervisors announced a tentative agreement was reached with the police bargaining unit and approved salary increases.
The new hourly wages for members of the police department are Craig Miller, chief, $23.70 an hour; lieutenant, $19.25 an hour; detective, $18.75 an hour; patrolmen, $17 an hour, part-time patrolman, $15 an hour; and starting part-time patrolman, $14 an hour. The starting wage for part-time patrolman increases to $15 after one year of service.
The wages for the chief, lieutenant and detective each increased $1.25 an hour; patrolman wages increase $1 an hour; and wages for part-time patrolmen remained unchanged.
Wages for township employees increased $1 an hour. Full-time road employees will receive $20.70 an hour; township secretary, $18.65 an hour; police secretary, $10. 50 an hour; janitor, $13.22 an hour; and part-time street light, fire hydrant and Community Development Block Grant coordinator, $22.25 an hour.
K-2 Engineering was appointed township engineer on an as-needed basis; Dennis Makel was retained as township solicitor at $100 an hour and $250 a meeting; and Community Bank was named the township depository.
Keystone Collections Group was reappointed collector of the township’s earned income, per capita and municipal service taxes. Southwest Regional Tax Bureau was retained to collect taxes in default.
The supervisors reappointed Clarence Brewer and Ed Begovich to the township zoning board; and Tara Kinsell to the township parks and recreation board.
