Fort Pitt Tunnel to close this weekend
The inbound Fort Pitt Tunnel on the Parkway West (Interstate 376) will close to traffic this weekend for ceiling removal work.
The tunnel will close at 10 p.m. Friday and remain closed through 6 a.m. Monday for the work.
All traffic will be detoured, and signs will be posted to guide motorists. The posted detour will require inbound traffic to form a single lane exiting at the Route 19/51/West End interchange before the tunnel.
The state Department of Transportation warns drivers to expect delays and allow extra time. Eight full weekend closures will occur as part of the ceiling removal project. Closures will be scheduled to minimize impacts on downtown events, when possible. Other traffic restrictions will occur during off-peak hours and weekends. There also will be four full closures on weekend evenings.
