Turzai announces House chairmanships
Speaker-designate Rep. Mike Turzai, R-Allegheny County, Monday announced the appointments of Republican and Democratic committee chairmen, including two whose districts include parts of Washington County, for the 2015-16 legislative session beginning today.
They include Rep. John Maher, R-Upper St. Clair, Allegheny and Washington counties, Environmental Resources and Energy Committee; and Rep. Peter J. Daley, D-California, Fayette and Washington counties, Consumer Affairs Committee.
House committees study each bill and determine which proposals will go to the full House. They conduct public hearings on key issues, allowing citizens and interested groups to have a say in the legislative process, and they serve as a resource for members and others.
Committees are outlined in the House rules that are enacted for each session. The appointments are unofficial until announced on the House floor.
