Perry Twp. man sentenced in sexual assault of child

WAYNESBURG – A Perry Township man who pleaded guilty in August to the indecent assault of a child under the age of 13 was sentenced by Judge Farley Toothman Dec. 30 to 6 to 23 ½ months in jail followed by five years of probation.

Howard Ronald Ackley, 66, of 380 Hoy Run Road, Spraggs, will be required to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law for the rest of his life.. He was ordered to perform 350 hours of community service and pay fines of $2,250 plus court costs and fees.

Ackley also pleaded guilty in August to charges of indecent exposure and corruption of minors in the case.

According to a criminal complaint filed by state police trooper Daniel Barnhart, a young girl came to the state police barracks in Waynesburg March 14 to report Ackley sexually assaulted her. The victim told Barnhart the acts, which occurred at Ackley’s residence, started when she was 7 years old and continued until she was 13 years old.
