Reward offered in Mitchell Power Station break-ins
A $500 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction following two metal thefts late last year at the former Mitchell Power Station.
First Energy, which owns the property on Route 837 in Union Township, is offering the reward following the break-ins on Nov. 9 and Dec. 31.
Southwest Regional police said six people entered the property on Nov. 9 and damaged the structure and equipment.
During the second break-in on Dec. 31, about 200 feet of copper wire was stolen from a substation at the property when the thieves cut through a chain-link fence, police said.
Police are investigating whether the two incidents are related.
Anyone with information on the burglaries are asked to call Southwest Regional police at 724-929-8484, or private message officers through the department’s Facebook page.
