Man arrested in assault on officer

1 min read

A Pittsburgh man was arrested on a warrant Wednesday charging him with striking a Monongahela police officer with his vehicle as he fled from a 2014 traffic stop in New Eagle.

Roman J. Vukmanovich, 22, was arraigned on accusations he caused officer Kevin Harris to stumble backward when his vehicle struck him March 21, 2014, in the 400 block of the borough’s Main Street, court records show.

Harris said the driver stopped, and then put the vehicle in reverse onto Route 88, causing three other vehicles to screech to a halt. The car then traveled forward, striking the officer and drove away south on Route 88.

The officer took down the vehicle’s license plate number.

Vukmanovich was charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, simple assault, tampering with evidence and fleeing from police. He was released from Washington County jail Wednesday night after posting $25,000 bond set by District Judge Mark Wilson.
