Online courses available at local libraries
Gale Courses, which offer patrons of Bowlby Public Library in Waynesburg and Flenniken Public Library in Carmichaels, access to hundreds of instructor-led online courses begins Jan. 21.
The courses, available through the two local public libraries, cover everything from Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, health and wellness, creative writing, computer programming, GED test preparation and more. Courses are developed by expert instructors, many currently working at universities around the country, and have continuous enrollment dates. The course catalog offers something for everyone.
Courses run for six weeks, with two new lessons being released weekly (for a total of 12), and new sessions beginning every month. The courses are entirely Web-based with comprehensive lessons, quizzes and assignments. A dedicated professional instructor coordinates every course by pacing learners, answering questions, giving feedback and facilitating discussions.
Library card holders can enroll and participate in courses from library computers or remotely from their home computer. There is no cost to the library patron for these courses. To get a public library card, please stop by Bowlby or Flenniken libraries.
