Pittsburgh salt truck worker slips on icy road, injures head

PITTSBURGH (AP) – A Pittsburgh public works employee is hospitalized with a head injury after stepping out of a salt truck and slipping on an icy roadway.

The Post-Gazette reports the woman was injured around 6 a.m. at the intersection of Lilac Street and Beechwood Boulevard in the city’s Greenfield section.

The worker is being treated at UPMC Mercy. Her name and condition weren’t immediately disclosed.

A freezing rain advisory is in effect for the Pittsburgh area until 1 p.m.

Forecasters say freezing rain in Western Pennsylvania will switch to rain by midday before changing back to snow by late afternoon.
