1 min read

The Southwestern Pennsylvania Area Agency on Aging is planning to hold its Senior Games June 17 at Waynesburg Central High School.

The event attracts about 700 older adult participants and spectators. This year, there are 11 competitions, including the one-mile walk, the 50-yard dash, basketball toss, bocce, corn bag toss, football throw, horseshoes, putting, shuffleboard, softball throw and the stationary bike.

The competitions are for men and women 50 years old or older who live in Washington, Greene and Fayette counties, or who belong to a senior center within these counties.

In addition to the athletic events, Senior Games includes an ongoing prime-time health fair, a senior variety show, super bingo, food and craft booths.

The Area Agency on Aging has sponsorships to help with the expenses of the games-related events, such as the senior golf tournament, 500 bid card tournament, 8-ball pool tournament, Wii bowling tournament and the dart ball tournament, all of which take place prior to the Senior Games day and attract about 500 competitors.

For more information, including sponsorship, call 724-489-8080, extension 4433.
