A Ringgold High School senior was arrested Wednesday on accusations he used social media to threaten to harm a classmate, possibly with a gun, if she told police he stole money from her, court records state.

Carroll Township police charged Alexander James Crowley, 18, of 639 Mingo Park Estates, Nottingham Township, in the case with making terroristic threats, stalking and retaliating against a witness. He was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Mark Wilson and released from Washington County jail after posting $25,000 bond.

Police said the female accused Crowley of stealing a substantial amount of money from her purse at a Monongahela residence on Dec. 28.

In one social media message, Crowley allegedly related to the girl that if she reported him to police he would “get someone to assault her to keep her quiet,” the record states.

The girl confronted Crowley about the theft at the high school in Carroll Township on Jan. 8. Police said. School district officials intervened and took appropriate disciplinary action against him. That incident led to Ringgold police filing two additional counts of making terroristic threats against Crowley, who has not yet been arraigned on that criminal complaint, court records indicate.

Township police said Crowley then sent the girl threatening direct messages on Twitter from Friday through Monday.

One of the messages involved “highly specific threats,” police said.

Ringgold School District Superintendent Karen Polkabla declined to discuss the case.
