A Washington man was arrested shortly after a reported home invasion about noon Thursday at a home in the 500 block of West Chestnut Street, Washington police said.

Robert Welsh III, 33, of 610 Ewing St., who was wearing a mask, is accused of entering the home and pointing a gun at the man living at the residence, said Chief Chris Luppino. Welsh knocked at the door and entered when the resident opened the door.

Welsh reportedly demanded cash. Once he got the money, he left.

Welsh was found a short time later in a home at 430 ½ W. Chestnut.

Luppino said one shot was fired during the incident. Police are trying to determine if the gunfire was accidental. A shell casing found matched the gun found by police hidden in the house at 430 ½ W. Chestnut.

Welsh was arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger on charges of robbery and reckless endangerment. He was placed in Washington County jail on $75,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 28 before Redlinger.
