West Pike Run man critically wounded in a shooting at his home
DAISYTOWN – A West Pike Run Township man was seated at his kitchen table eating and reading a newspaper when an assailant shot him in the chest Monday night, state police said.
Robert Yarnovich, 69, of 73 Woodland Road, remained in critical condition Tuesday afternoon at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Police said more than one person may have entered Yarnovich’s residence about 9 p.m. before he was robbed and the home was ransacked. Police said investigators did not have a suspect in the case.
A woman who identified herself as Yarnovich’s daughter outside his house Tuesday said she had no idea who would want to harm her father.
Yarnovich was charged by state police in February 2007 with attempted homicide in connection with the shooting of a friend of his ex-girlfriend at her residence. The victim was shot in the hand as the woman attempted to take the weapon from Yarnovich. He pleaded guilty in Washington County Court in September 2007 to simple assault and was sentenced to spend 3 days to 18 months in Washington County Jail.
State police at the Belle Vernon barracks asked anyone with information about Monday’s shooting to call them at 724-929-6262.
