Central Greene board approves payments

3 min read

WAYNESBURG – Central Greene School Board gave its approval of final payment for the electrical portion of a recently completed Central Greene High School auditorium renovation project to R. E. Yates Electric, Inc. in the amount of $36,490.96. District Business Manager Debbie Crouse said there is still an outstanding payment left on the project to be made to Waller Corporation, the general contractor.

The overall combined project costs for the electric and general contracting for the auditorium was roughly $900,000.

In honor of School Director Recognition Month, Ramonda Lipscomb, representing the Central Greene Education Association, presented board members with cookie platters.

Lipscomb expressed gratitude on behalf of the CGEA to the board for their work on behalf of the district and “especially our children,” she said.

Prior to the meeting, District Superintendent Brian Uplinger said, “Public education is more than just learning the basic math, science, English and history; it’s a platform for students to reach their potential. It inspires hope for a new generation and a successful future.”

Uplinger said the district exists, “in part,” because individuals volunteered time through the years as board members to make educated decisions about the issues facing the district.

“Every January, we celebrate these everyday heroes – the nine elected School Board Members who serve our students and educational system, with school director recognition month,” Uplinger said. “I have the distinct pleasure of working with this group of nine on a regular basis. We share the same devotion, vision, and mission for the betterment of Central Greene School District.”

Uplinger said being on the school board often involves making difficult decisions and he extended his personal gratitude for the time and effort given by the board members.

In another matter, following the board approval of Jacob Stewart as a non-instructional substitute employee, Uplinger made note the district is in serious need of additional non-instructional substitutes, as well as professional substitutes.

In other non-instructional staff motions, the board accepted a transfer request for Christine Churney, a part-time cook at Margaret Bell Miller Middle School, to a vacant midnight shift janitor position at Waynesburg Central High School. Churney was approved for the out-of-classification position based on seniority, related work experience, and her test scores.

The board also approved a recommendation to appoint William Ryan as boys varsity high school head track coach and to add Barb Hartlaub and Jessica Vukmanic as volunteer chaperones in the district.

Two retirement requests accepted by the board, included; Anna Calvert, a cook at Waynesburg Central High School, and Richard Brown, a custodian in Margaret Bell Miller Middle School, who has worked in the district for 34 years. Both will retire effective Thursday.
