Canon-Mac working to acquire property

1 min read

Canon-McMillan School Board authorized the district to begin the eminent domain process to acquire condemned property across from the South Central Elementary School.

School board President Paul Scarmazzi said the property could be used for “future growth” in the district.

The parcels are 108, 109 and 110 S. Central Ave. in Canonsburg Borough. An emiment domain petition filed in Washington County Court earlier this month idenitfies the property owner as 108 South Central LLC, a company that acquired the property through a special warranty deed in February 2012.

The district notified the property owner it was interested in purchasing the property, “but the parties have not been able to agree on the terms of the purchase,” according to court documents.

Board Solicitor Jon Higie said the amount of compensation due to the property owner has not yet been determined.
