Two men arrested in Charleroi assault, robbery
Two Charleroi men were arrested Tuesday night by Charleroi Regional police for their alleged roles in the assault and robbery of a man outside a residence on Fallowfield Avenue.
Tyler Jordan Corbitt, 22, of 1228 McKean Ave., is charged with robbery, simple assault and disorderly conduct for allegedly assaulting 19-year-old Lester McGriff outside 1008 Fallowfield. Eddie Donell McGuire, 20, of 1008 Fallowfield, is charged with conspiracy for his alleged role in the assault. Corbitt also faces a charge of possession of marijuana and McGuire is charged with possession of paraphernalia.
Police were called about 10:15 p.m. to 1008 Fallowfield, where they learned McGriff had just been assaulted and robbed outside the building by four men who ran into 1008 Fallowfield.
An officer then spotted a man, identified as McGuire, looking out the window. McGriff and a witness to the assault told police that McGuire was one of the attackers. McGriff told police that his grandmother’s credit card and $40 were stolen during the robbery.
Police went to 1008 Fallowfield and saw both McGuire and Corbitt, who was also identified as being involved in the assault. The two refused to open the door and come outside. Officers could also smell marijuana coming from inside the house.
Police forcibly entered the residence and took the two into custody. Corbitt reportedly admitted to police that he had punched McGriff. Police said McGriff had a cut on his upper lip. There also was blood on the sidewalk.
A small amount of suspected marijuana was found in Corbitt’s cargo pants. Police were initially denied permission to search 1008 Fallowfield. The resident then changed her mind and allowed police to enter the home. They found suspected paraphernalia, a 12-gauge shotgun and shotgun shells in McGuire’s room and McGuire reportedly admitted to police that the items belonged to him.
The two were each arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka and placed in Washington County Jail on $25,000 bond. They are escheduled for preliminary hearings Feb. 5 before District Judge Larry Hopkins.
