A Canton Township man was arrested early Thursday by state police after he allegedly assaulted and threatened his wife not long after he was brought home by Washington police following a drunken driving crash.

City police had dropped off Raymond J. Ingram, 25, of 2221 Normandy St., at his home after a crash in the West End. Police were called about 1:35 a.m. for a reported crash near Brookside Avenue and Addison Street.

When police arrived, they found a vehicle on the driver’s side over the hill off Brookside. The two occupants, later identified as Ingram, and Chaz Gaston, 25, of Washington, were climbing out the broken rear window.

The two men told police they had just left a nearby bar. Both men refused treatment, but police determined Ingram was intoxicated. His blood-alcohol content was three times the 0.08 limit presumed for intoxication.

West Penn Power Co. crews were called to the scene to make repairs because Ingram’s vehicle struck a utility pole, bringing down wires, before crashing over the hill.

State police were called about 3:15 a.m. to the home by his 23-year-old wife, Kayla Marie Ingram. When state police arrived, they found her in the bathroom and her husband in the bedroom.

She told police that when he came home, he was angry and started throwing things around the house. She got him to lie down, hoping he would go to sleep.

Ingram reportedly climbed on top of his wife while the two were on the bed and pinned her down. He then allegedly started choking her, telling her he was going to kill her. She was able to get free and call for help.

Ingram was arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka on charges of terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment. He was placed in Washington County jail on $20,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 29 before District Judge David Mark.

The charges for drunken driving and traffic violations will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.
