Ringgold superintendent receives contract extension
NEW EAGLE – Ringgold School Board extended the district superintendent’s contract for three years, beginning July 1.
Superintendent Karen Polkabla will be paid $128,000 in the next school term in a decision that was unanimously approved Wednesday by the nine directors, board Vice President William Stein Jr. said.
“She’s done a spectacular job,” Stein said, adding Polkabla was instrumental in focusing on academics and improving the district’s ranking.
Polkabla, of Donora, is a former Ringgold elementary school principal who was appointed superintendent in 2011.
She will lead the district at a time when it plans to begin construction of a new, nearly $35 million middle school in November.
Stein said Polkabla has led the district through much controversy and turmoil while current and former directors closed elementary schools and debated what to do about a middle school.
“She had to weather a storm,” he said.
