Death penalty not sought in Internet murder case
NORRISTOWN, Pa. (AP) – Prosecutors say a central Pennsylvania man accused of having robbed and killed a suburban Philadelphia man he met on the Internet will not face the death penalty if he is convicted of first-degree murder.
Twenty-eight-year-old Chad Marshall Wilcox of Williamsport appeared in Montgomery County Court on Friday in the Sept. 21 death of 36-year-old Manuel Hakimian of Norristown.
Prosecutors allege that the defendant met Hakimian through an ad he posted on Craigslist and after the slaying used the victim’s bank and credit cards in at least five states before his arrest in North Carolina.
Deputy District Attorney Thomas McGoldrick said prosecutors decided against trying to seek the death penalty after reviewing the facts of the case.
Wilcox is currently awaiting trial in Lycoming County on child rape charges.
