Police beat Jan. 28
Theft, receiving charges: Alek R. Swiger, 23, of 2043 Route 980, McDonald, was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge David Mark on charges of theft and receiving stolen property by Canonsburg police. He is accused of stealing an RCA Pro tablet from Travis Holt, 232 Vine St., Jan. 20. Mark set bond at $10,000 on Swiger, who was in Washington County jail on a bench warrant.
Jewelry stolen: John and Virginia Lloyd of 258 N. Jefferson Ave. told Canonsburg police two rings and five necklaces were stolen from their home.
DUI, drug charges: Darrell G. Lesane, 22, of Bethany, W.Va., was charged Monday by state police in connection with an Aug. 29 sobriety checkpoint on Route 844 in Canton. State police said he had a bag of marijuana and was driving under the influence of marijuana during the stop. He also was charged with possession of paraphernalia. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge David Mark.
Assault charge: Christopher S. Bedillion, 41, of 390 McKee Road, Canton, was arrested by state police Monday on charges of simple assault and harassment. He is accused of grabbing Jamie Froelich by the neck and throwing her against a toolbox during a confrontation at his home. He was arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka and placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond.
Club cited: The operators of Muse Independent Club were cited Monday by the state police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement for possessing or operating gambling devices, stemming from an incident last month.
Caregiver assaulted: Arthur P. Benoit III, 26, of 462 Hudson St., Monongahela, was arrested Monday by Monongahela police on charges of aggravated assault and simple assault for allegedly assaulting his father’s caregiver in his home. He is accused of throwing her against a door frame, causing her to fall to the floor. Benoit was arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka and placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond.
Theft charges: Jessica Renee Miller was arraigned Tuesday on two counts of theft by deception after North Franklin police said she stole $2,545 worth of gift cards while working at the BP gas station at 1360 W. Chestnut St. Police said Miller, 20, of 1966 S. Main St., North Franklin, loaded the gift cards by falsely refunding gasoline purchases between Nov. 26 and Dec. 1. District Judge Robert Redlinger set Miller’s bond at $5,000 cash.
Theft arrest: Travis E. Knight, 29, of Steubenville, Ohio, was arrested Monday by South Strabane police on a charge of retail theft after he allegedly stole items valued at $205 from Lowe’s, Strabane Square. He was arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka and placed in Washington County jail on $1,200 bond.
Robbery arrest: Sidney S. Sadler, 49, of Washington, was arrested Monday on a warrant on charges of robbery, theft and receiving stolen property obtained by Washington police. He is accused of stealing $100 from Darryl Hockett. Police said he was in Hockett’s vehicle when he spotted the money. Sadler allegedly told Hockett he had a gun and demanded the money. Sadler was arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka and placed in Washington County jail on $20,000 bond.
Out-of-state arrest warrant: Fernando R. Mendez, 74, of 1520 Jefferson Ave., Washington, was jailed Tuesday after he turned himself into Washington County sheriff’s deputies at Courthouse Square upon learning there was an active warrant for his arrest in Hillsborough County, Fla. Mendez was taken to Washington County jail and will be extradited to Florida by authorities there.
