Avella store robbed at gunpoint
State police are looking a suspect who held up an Avella convenience store at gunpoint Saturday night.
The robber, who appears to be armed with a sawed-off shotgun, entered the Uni Mart on Route 50 about 9:45 p.m., said Trooper Sarah Teagarden.
No one was in the store but the clerk when the man approached and demanded money while pointing the gun. Teagarden said the clerk got the drawer out of the cash register and placed it on the counter. He reached into the drawer and grabbed the money. The clerk told police that he then fled from the store on foot.
The robber is white, about 5 feet, 8 inches, to 5 feet, 10 inches, tall. He wore a gray, hooded sweatshirt, black jacket, jeans and brown boots. He had a knit hat with holes cut out for his eyes pulled down over his face.
