Car chase ends in construction zone; driver charged with DUI

1 min read

WAYNESBURG – State police say a driver fled a traffic stop early Friday in Waynesburg and was chased by troopers through a construction zone until he was boxed in by concrete construction barriers.

Police say Christopher Michael Griedel, 29, of Clarksvillle, sped away as troopers responded to a report of a possible intoxicated driver at the intersection of Bonar Avenue and State Route 21 about 3 a.m.

Police say Griedel, in a 1999 Chevrolet Lumina with Kansas plates, immediately accelerated when sirens were activated and went through a red light and a stop sign. There was a short pursuit through a construction zone near Southwest Regional Hospital, and Griedel traveled onto a closed portion of Route 21 until he became boxed in, police said.

Griedel was taken into custody by troopers as he tried to put his car in reverse.

Griedel was charged with fleeing or attempt to elude a police officer, DUI and multiple traffic violations. He was placed in Greene County Prison.
