Swimmer still missing; report of body found is false alarm

1 min read

MONACA (AP) – The search for the body of a swimmer last seen struggling in the Ohio River in Western Pennsylvania was continuing after reports that a body was found in the area turned out to be a false alarm.

Family and friends say Jason Moore was swimming in the river in Monaca when he went under the water about 8 p.m. Wednesday. The man is in his early 20s.

Crews were first called to the river by reports that two young people were struggling to stay afloat, but one was able to get out of the water safely.

Recent rains have created stronger currents that are not only dangerous for swimmers but also made the search more difficult.

The false alarm that a body was found occurred before noon Thursday.
