Pittsburgh police probe shooting death

1 min read

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Police in western Pennsylvania are investigating a shooting death in Pittsburgh overnight – and trying to find out whether shots fired in the same area five hours later were related.

Officers were called to the East Liberty neighborhood just before 9:30 p.m. Friday and found a man shot in the head at the Hendon Court public housing community.

The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office said 24-year-old Thomas Johnson Jr. of Penn Hills was pronounced dead at UPMC Presbyterian.

Officers responded shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday to the same neighborhood after a gunshot detection system indicated that 10 rounds had been fired.

Police found a shattered rear glass sliding door and a shattered second-floor bedroom window at a Blanford Court home. A 23-year-old man and an infant were home but unharmed.
