Area man charged in cow theft

WAYNESBURG – A Clarksville man was charged by state police this week in connection with the theft of three cows from a Washington County farm after the owner recognized his stolen cattle at a livestock auction last month.

Henry Vester Stiles III, 33, of 27 Clark St. was charged with receiving stolen property after he allegedly dropped off three cows at the Waynesburg Livestock Auction in West Waynesburg on June 18, state police said.

The owner of the cows, George Donahoo of Marianna, who is employed at the stockyard, recognized the cows as his by the uniqueness of the pattern of their hides and contacted police, Trooper Kevin Kulka said.

Donahoo was able to identify Stiles as the man who brought the cows to the stockyard from a driver’s license photo, Kulka said

The cows, valued at $2,400, were stolen in February and a report filed with state police in Washington County, the complaint said.

The charge was filed Wednesday with District Judge Glenn Bates. Stiles had not yet been arraigned by Thursday afternoon.
